Our next feature, "Romance Road Killers" is kicking into gear. We currently have 100 or so photos, poster explorations and screen captures up, as well as opportunities for anybody that would like to get their name in the film (we know that's a long-shot, but it's a shot!).

And a very special thanks to Jo Blo's Arrow in the Head who says the movie "has one of the coolest sites for an indie in pre-production that I've seen. It grabs your attention, is easy to navigate, and gives you the info you want without a lot of useless bells and whistles."

Filming is scheduled to begin late February 2006, but the filmmakers already did some test shoots in September and November 2005, in which case we just finished some trailers/montage sequences that should hopefully be online soon!

The film is loosely based on the Charles Starkweather/Caril Ann Fugate killing spree of 1958 in Nebraska (a 19 year old boy who took his 14 year girlfriend on a violent road trip - whether she actually contributed to any of the murders or was a hostage remains a mystery). This film has been updated to 1999, following Jacob Stahl, 19, and Isabelle Cassmen, 14, on a killing spree along the coasts of California. The backgrounds of the characters have been changed to explore an unusual case of child abuse, molestation, foster care and social workers, involving true incidents from the lives of filmmakers Shane Ryan and Emily Wryn (who, at 16 years old, looks to break the record as youngest female director for a feature film).

The movie (inspired by the 1958 Charles Starkweather/Caril Ann Fugate killing spree) is currently set to begin shooting in late February 2006, but the filmmakers decided to shoot ?test footage? beforehand and made this trailer and montage sequence from it. There have already been several films made about these people and the crimes theyve committed.

What was it that you guys thought you could add to this story that has already been imagined and interpreted by so many different filmmakers with so much more budget and established professional talent?

I notice that one of the co-directors was in a Disney kids TV program. Awww.....so cute.

Well, David Lynch, who directed one of those movies ("Wild at Heart") actually made a Dinsey film not too long ago ("The Straight Story") and the star of "Wild at Heart", Nicolas Cage, just starred in a Disney film (National Treasure"). Not that I'm trying in any way to compare them to people like Lynch or Cage but I don't see what having a bit part in one Disney show has anything to do with the filmmakers making this movie.

As far as making another moviebased on these events, the Starkweather case is just the basis for the film, the inspiration, you'll see that the names and time period and locations, even the motives have all been changed. After all, there are only a few stories in the world you can tell, it just depends how you tell it.

The filmmakers are incorporating their onw lives involving foster care and child abuse issues, which only they can tell, as it involves their own personal issues and experiences. The killing spree and romance is just the plot everything evolves around, so it should hopefully be an interesting and very different film. The same way all those other films stand on their own, hopefully this will too, but at the same time they are playing homage to the case that it was inspired by.

You don't have to defend yourself or the guy for appearing in a Disney program. I wasn't saying it was bad.

I think it's great that you or he participated in wholesome family entertainment that stands for educating children about proper family values.
